Heartburn during Pregnancy
Heartburn refers to the burning pain felt when digestive juices counterflow into the oesophagus.
Many women will feel it at some/any stage during their pregnancy, often later on in pregnancy.
Symptoms range from mild to severe discomfort, pain and vomiting. Often resulting in loss of sleep and reduced food intake - and just when you had finished ith Morning Sickness.
What causes it?
The cause is the increased hormones - prog and oestrogen - produced during pregnancy – which have the effect of relaxing the smooth muscles in the digestive tract leading to indigestion.
