Post-Natal Acupuncture

Post-Natal Acupuncture.

Traditional Chinese Medicine refers to the Golden month which is a time period 30 days postpartum.

During this phase, new momma will be busy loving and feeding and nurturing her precious little baby, but who is looking after mom? After I had my identical twin girls, my own mother used to call over and make eggs on toast and soup for me and insist that I eat even when I wasn’t feeling very hungry, eating nutrient-dense easily digestible, warming blood building foods such as stews, soups, root veg to regain energy and strength is so essential for new mothers.

Who is helping you during the Golden month and how can you prepare in advance to make life easier ?

What is Mother warming Moxabustion?

This is where we warm up the meridians and muscles around the abdomen and womb with a herbal stick containing Mugworth. The heat around the abdominal area is relaxing and nurturing and the herb helps to heal wounds and move the blood and encourages circulation , energy and vitality. Emotional wellbeing is enhanced and it’s an opportunity for new momma to connect with the amazing work and effort that her body has gone through to create her little baby. Often women feel comfortable enough to release a few tears.. suitable from 5 days - 1 week post-natal..and it’s never too late to receive this treatment.

(not suitable in the case of c-section early scar, or hot flushes)

I often see women for post-natal Massage and Acupuncture combination sessions after 6 weeks. This is a good time to get relief from post-delivery muscular tension and weakness and alleviate common shoulder and neck pain.  In many cases, it takes 3 months to recover from being pregnant and giving birth.

Mother Warming.

A particular Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment, known as “Mother Warming” is a wonderful Moxabustion treatment administered around 1 week after birth provided there are no scars in the abdomen.

This treatment warms the channels in the abdomen and the lower back and sacrum, this generates a lovely feeling of warmth wellbeing and strength in the mother.  Realistically, this isn’t suitable post-c-section at this early stage but there is much that Chinese Medicine can offer post- section when the mother herself is ready both emotionally and physically.

I often see women for post-natal Massage and Acupuncture combination sessions after 6 weeks. This is a good time to get relief from post-delivery muscular tension and weakness and alleviate common shoulder and neck pain.  Many women feel as though they need to straight back at it at this stage but actually, it can take much longer to feel back to normal due to continued tiredness, physical weakness, and feelings of overwhelm due to hormonal changes and lack of sleep.  In many cases, I feel that it may 3 months to recover from both being pregnant and giving birth.
